Students Delighted Over Restored Equipment

Students from North Notts College have been busy restoring a fitness trail for the children at North Wheatley C of E Primary School. In June 2015 the children were devastated to learn their fitness trail had been condemned as unsafe due to rotting timber.

The trail would have cost thousands of pounds to be removed and wasn’t cost effective to be replaced. The head teacher approached Foundation Tutor, Michael Cox from North Notts College, to see if anything could be done to rebuild the trail as it was sorely missed.

North Notts students had previously worked with the school where they transformed unused playground space into a log cabin used as an outdoor classroom. They built and installed a story teller chair, a sand pit and have done some general maintenance around the school.

The students took photos of the configuration before removing sections of the rotten timber to be replaced and then repaired the rotten stumps, rusty bolts and rickety balance beams. All the work undertaken fitted into and went alongside units the learners needed to complete as part of their qualification.

Head Teacher, Joanna Hall said “Pupils were delighted when it was ready, on the first day the playground was empty, as all the pupils were on the fitness trail!
