Students and Staff Donate to the Thornberry Animal Shelter

Over the last few months, students from various academic areas at North Notts College have teamed up in a social action campaign to collect donations for Thornberry Animal Sanctuary. The campaign was a great success, with a significant amount of donations gathered, including children’s toys, books, clothing, shoes, knitted blankets, bric-a-brac, and DVDs.

Founded in 1988, Thornberry Animal Sanctuary is a charity dedicated to rescuing and rehoming pets that have been abandoned, mistreated, or neglected. Their mission is to provide a haven for these animals while working towards their rehabilitation and finding them loving forever homes. As a charity, they rely entirely on donations and the support of volunteers to continue their vital work.

Shortly after receiving the donation, Ged Jenkins-Omar, Fundraising Manager at the sanctuary, said, “Thornberry is extremely grateful for the donations received from North Notts College. The support from local organisations like the college really helps Thornberry undertake the vital charity work that we do. We would like to say thank you to all of the staff and students who have helped in collecting donations for the sanctuary.”

Learner Experience, a team at North Notts College that helps students improve their college experiences through extracurriculars, voluntary work, and initiatives like this one, led the campaign. They are also responsible for arranging guest speakers and are always on the lookout for new ways to improve the students learning journey.

Sharon Haglington, Workplace and Employability Coordinator at North Notts College and also a key organiser behind the project, said: “We had a very positive response from our students and staff. I would like to thank everyone who donated to Thornberry; their donations will make a huge difference to the lives of animals they care for.”
