Courtney Claims 2022 Principal’s Award
North Notts College student Courtney Smith has won the 2022 Principal’s Award following her exemplary voluntary work.
Studying on the Supported Internship course at the College’s FLEX programme, Courtney has won the award for her incredibly hard work, dedication and passion for her course.
Speaking about winning the award, Courtney said: “I was shocked at first as I had no idea that I’d even been nominated, but I’m really happy with the award and quite proud.”
Through her Supported Internship, Courtney volunteers with a number of organisations including Bassetlaw Foodbank, where she has worked on a social eating project as well as being a crucial part of the catering team at a local cafe.
One of the people behind Courtney’s nomination was her Job Coach, Samantha Ferrol, who has worked with her over the last year and helped Courtney in developing the skills needed to thrive in her internships.
Samantha and Courtney’s mother surprised Courtney in College as they presented her with the award and a voucher for her outstanding achievement.
Samantha said: “Courtney has tackled every job with a smile and works incredibly hard, every day.
“She is an integral part of every team she works in and shows how far hard work, high attendance and a positive attitude can get you – she truly is an exemplary student who sets a great example to others.”
Speaking about her Supported Internship and the opportunities she’s had, Courtney underlined how much fun learning about different jobs is.
She said: “When I first started at College I was quite nervous, but after working with Sam and on my placements, I’ve grown in confidence.
“I’ve really enjoyed learning about the different job roles out there as well as gaining the confidence to travel to and from placement – I just really enjoy learning about it all!”
Speaking about the future, Courtney mentioned that she’s not sure of exactly what career path she wants to go down.
With a smile, she said: “I haven’t decided what I want to do for a career yet, but I’m just really enjoying learning about all the different jobs, and the good thing is, there’s no rush.”
Congratulations Courtney on your award, well done!
