Protective Services Students Visit Royal Armouries Museum
At the start of term, our protective services students visited the Royal Armouries Museum in Leeds, where they learnt about the history of military warfare, weaponry, and armour. From the moment they arrived, students were transported through time, exploring everything from mediaeval battles to modern conflicts.
Throughout the trip, students witnessed an impressive array of exhibits in the museum, including longbows, swords, and more contemporary soldier gear. A standout feature was the fascinating section dedicated to arms and armour in film, where students could marvel at iconic weapons from beloved movies like Lord of the Rings and Star Wars.
Both local history and international artefacts were on display that enriched their understanding, including samurai armour from Japan and Zulu spears and shields from Africa. Seeing this diversity made for an engaging outing while also being relevant to the Armed Forces element of their course. Some students even had a chance to get hands-on with equipment and wear costumes from across the ages.
One student, Jack, expressed his enthusiasm for the trip, stating:
“It was great to see so many different pieces of armour and weapons from all over the world. I especially liked the ancient samurai armour and the modern soldier exhibits.”
