North Notts College Places First at Guild of Bricklayers Regionals
Congratulations to Level 2 Apprentice Corey Richardson, who received first place in the Guild of Bricklayers (GoB) Junior Competition at Grimsby Institute on 22 May, 2024. This marks a significant achievement, as he is the first learner from North Notts College to win the competition since its inception nearly five decades ago.
Established in 1976, the GoB is a renowned organisation dedicated to upholding exceptional bricklaying craftsmanship. Their annual regional competitions are highly sought-after events for aspiring bricklayers, colleges, and tutors alike. Guild members serve on the advisory panels of all the technical education institutes, supervising competition stands at local and national exhibitions.
During the competition, participants were asked to demonstrate their bricklaying skills through a series of challenging tasks. These tasks required precision, attention to detail, and adherence to specific specifications and build finishes. Competitors had to showcase their ability to create structurally sound and aesthetically pleasing brickwork within a set timeframe, adhering to the high standards set by the Guild of Bricklayers.
Corey emerged victorious, wowing the judges with his exceptional craftsmanship. His meticulous approach, particularly evident in the quality of his brickwork, left a lasting impression. Judges commended his confidence and eye for detail, which ultimately secured him the top spot in “one of the closest competitions to date”.
Nathan Webster also competed admirably in the Senior section, showcasing his advanced skills and dedication. Although he did not place first, his performance was highly commendable and highlighted the strong training provided by North Notts College.
With this victory, Corey Richardson will advance to the Grand Final, scheduled to take place at Herts Regional College Broxbourne Campus on 20th June 2024. This upcoming event promises to be another exciting opportunity for Corey to demonstrate his skills on a larger stage.
Curriculum Team Leader for Construction, Mick Cox, commented, “We are incredibly proud of Corey and Nathan. Their success is a testament to their hard work and the quality of our training programme. Corey’s achievement is particularly significant, and we are all rooting for him in the Grand Final.”
As the NNC community celebrates this remarkable achievement, anticipation builds for the Grand Final, where Corey Richardson will aim to continue his winning streak.
