GO Run for Fun
A mass of bright pink t-shirts highlighted the 550 children who took part in the GO Run for Fun Event which was held at the Sherwood Pines Forest Park at Edwinstowe in Mansfield on the 2nd November. Thirty five North Notts College students from Level 2 Sport and HNC Sport Science courses became sport leaders for the day, providing them with excellent work experience.
This incentive created an opportunity for young children from every Primary School in Bassetlaw to get an interest in exercise and encouraging them to have fun with sports by taking part in different activities and enjoying themselves.
The mascot Vinicius, from the Rio Olympics, was there to cheer the children on. The name of the mascot pays tribute to Brazilian musician Vinicius de Moraes.
Michala Swales, the Bassetlaw Games Organiser commented “I would like to say a huge thank you to all those involved from North Notts College, for your help in delivering the first ever GO Run For Fun in the Mansfield Area.
“As a team we believe the event went extremely well and we couldn’t have done it without your help. From helping us with the course and course set up, to the amount of volunteers and young leaders you brought along. We’re extremely grateful for all your support in making this event happen.”
Alan Viggers, one of the Tutors on the Sport course, commented “The students had a great time working with the children, setting up activities and encouraging them to try new things. Plus it was excellent work experience for them and part of an on-going exercise programme of activities we are supporting local schools with to encourage children to get active on a weekly basis.
“We look forward to working together with local schools in other sport events in the future.”
“The whole event was lively, active and lots of fun” said Aiden Tilstone, one of the students and Thomas Palmer added “People were very friendly and there was something for everyone. I really enjoyed the day it was great to see so many children enjoying themselves and to be part of it.”
