FLEX Christmas Market Raises £328 for Student Trip
Festive cheer filled the halls on 11th and 12th December as FLEX students organised a lively Christmas Market, raising an incredible £328 for a group trip scheduled next year. Held in the reception area between 10:00 AM and 12:00 PM each day, the market featured a wide range of handmade holiday goods.
Visitors snapped up personalised mugs, baubles, Christmas tree decorations, candles, and made-to-order gingerbread and shortbread boxes. Reindeer food cones, hot chocolate kits, and wax melts were also popular, adding to the festive atmosphere.
FLEX offers tailored support, guiding students towards independence and employment through pathways like Horizons, Pre-Internships, and Supported Internships. Events like this market provide valuable practical experience for these students, boosting their confidence and preparing them for future success.
Students from Carpentry and Joinery contributed by designing and building a custom-made wooden stall for the event. Their beautifully crafted stand not only showcased their skills but also gave the market a unique, rustic charm that perfectly matched the festive spirit.
Funds raised will be used for the group trip next year, providing students with the opportunity to create even more memories together. Staff at North Notts College also supported those unable to attend by reserving items in advance, ensuring everyone could enjoy the Christmas cheer.
Speaking about the experience, Davida Shelton, FLEX Lecturer at North Notts College, said:
“This is a brilliant opportunity for the learners to showcase the skills we embed within our curriculum. The students have done us proud—not only by planning, marketing, and creating the products for the event but also by having the confidence to put themselves front-of-house on the stall to sell them.”
