Art with a Message: Humanity Cartoons Exhibition Highlights Refugee Experiences
A few weeks ago, we hosted a poster exhibition in collaboration with Humanity Cartoons, featuring artwork that highlighted the experiences and challenges faced by refugees.
Organised by Time to Help UK, Dialogue Society, and Human Rights Solidarity, the exhibition aimed to raise awareness through the power of visual storytelling. Artists aged 16 and over were invited to submit original cartoons that shed light on the challenges faced by refugees. A panel of experts judged the submissions and awarded cash prizes to the top entries.
Learners from all areas at North Notts College headed down to admire the large collection of artworks, sparking meaningful discussions about migration, human rights, and resilience. In light of recent events, the exhibition’s message felt more relevant than ever, offering a timely reminder of the hardships faced by refugees.
Following the exhibition, learners attended a presentation by Dr. Kerim Balci, a Turkish writer, journalist, and human rights activist. As a member of the HRS Advisory Board (UK) and Chief Communication Officer of London Advocacy (UK), he provided insight into the misconceptions surrounding refugees and their broader societal impact. His talk encouraged attendees to reflect on the importance of empathy and understanding.
Many attendees praised the exhibition for its emotional impact and its ability to communicate complex issues in a visually engaging way. The artwork served as a reminder of the power of creativity in raising awareness and fostering empathy.
While the exhibition may have concluded, its message remains: art has the power to inspire change and challenge perceptions.
