This programme is designed for young learners who are working at a too high level for a route 2 or steps programme but need a transition year between vocational courses.
This is an ideal transition year between level 2 and 3, providing confidence and essential skills to prepare them for the next level.
While completing this programme, learners will develop the knowledge, understanding and essential skills employers look for in employees.
These range from familiar ‘key skills’ such as team working, independent learning and problem solving, to more tricky-to-measure skills such as:
- an appreciation for appropriate behaviour and dress
- appropriate interpersonal skills
- communicating with professional colleagues/peers and/or hierarchical seniors
- supporting other aspiring employee’s personal manners and department
- understanding work practices and how different roles and departments function within an organisation
Learners will also study English and Maths that they have not already gained to progress onto a Level 3 qualification. Study skills and academic writing will also be part of the programme.
You will study a range of topics alongside English and Maths if you don’t have them including:
Learners who are considered NEET (not in education employment or training) or those who are unsure of their career options.

All of the staff have been amazing to me over the years. After failing my GCSE English in school, I was given extra lessons at college, which enabled me to pass the exam. I have also had regular meetings with my career coach, who has been fantastic in helping me explore my options and provided some really useful information and advice.Jessica Chesters Early Years and Education
